Who Are We?

Recovery Café is a community based on the belief that everyone deserves love and belonging; and that meaningful belonging to community is essential for recovery.

We further believe that
everyone is in recovery from something. We use this mantra intentionally because it expresses the inclusivity of our community, it helps to reduce stigma regarding recovery challenges, and it reminds us of our universal humanity.

A lot of practical work goes on at Recovery Café. We provide support and connection so that Members can access housing, education, employment, and social and health services.

We welcome people wherever they are on their journeys, recognizing that there’s a wide spectrum of care and honoring multiple pathways to recovery.
It is not our aim to “fix” anyone at Recovery Café. We are simply creating space and opportunity where you can feel safe to explore new, healthy relationships and forms of healing.

What Do We Do?

HOW DO I PARTICIPATE IN THE RECOVERY CAFÉ?
The Recovery Café works because it’s a lived expression of the belief that every life has value; if you believe this, you have a role to play here, whether as a Member or as a Volunteer.

Membership
Members commit to:

     1. Be drug-and-alcohol-free while in the community space
     2. Participate in a weekly Recovery Circle
     3. Give Back to the Café community

What is a Recovery Circle?
     - A Recovery Circle is a peer support group where we share our recovery successes and challenges. This is where we foster a profound sense of connection and belonging. To build a trusted space, we expect everyone to maintain confidentiality; we enroll no more than 8 people in any Recovery Circle; each Circle is led by a facilitator; and we ask Members to attend their same Circle each week. Through consistency in sharing deeply and meeting one another with loving kindness, we experience growth and healing in our recovery together.

Volunteer
For some, Membership in a Recovery Circle may not be the right fit right now. We invite you to join us as a Volunteer instead. Recognizing that nurturing healthy relationships requires an investment of time, we ask for a minimum commitment of a two-hour shift twice monthly.

Some tasks our new volunteers help with include:

     - Kitchen Assistance
     - Morning set-up
     - Afternoon restock
     - Daily cleaning tasks on our "Give Back" board

     - Landscaping & Gardening
     - Maintenance/Repair

Empowering peer leadership is an important aspect of the Recovery Cafe community. After about 3-6 months, some Members and Volunteers may help us in additional roles:
     - Recovery Circle or Group Facilitator
     - Front Desk
     - Meal Server
     - Caf
é Companion
     - Administrative Assistance
     - Fundraising/Events
